Asthma is a chronic lung disease that inflames and narrows the airways. It can cause wheezing, (which is a whistling sound that you make when you breathe), chest tightness shortness of breath, and coughing. These are all because the body is trying to get as much air as it can but because the airways are tightening up the air can't get through.
